I recall seeing these pillars, but never knew what they were for and another set visable much farther away to the north, does anybody know what the purpose of these were?

WEREN'T THESE USED AS SUPPORTS FOR THE FUDOGS THAT COLLEGE KIDS USED TO BE FOREVER TAKING?

The Fu Dogs are in a different part of the park, and they are on much shorter pillars. I'm not sure what these pillars were for, except maybe considered statuary. They are quite tall.

The legend of the pillars is that if one of them is broken, the Centaur will come to life and avenge its death.
